How does the procedure work?

The combination of IPL treatment and chemical peel ensures a stronger and more effective procedure, so we achieve better results in a single procedure.
It gives an even better effect in rejuvenating the skin and improving skintone, and we use it most often on sun-damaged skin to achieve a radiant, clear complexion. As a bonus, the procedure stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in a plumped skin.

The first step of the procedure is to treat the skin with IPL. Specific wavelengths are used to target unwanted pigment and reddened blood vessels. In the second step, a chemical peel is applied to the skin. Depending on the skin type and the problem, both stronger and weaker solutions can be chosen.

Procedure is recommended to be carried out during winter time (autumn-winter). After the procedure, there may be redness, darkening of the pigmentation and a sunburn sensation, which will pass within a few hours. After a few days, the skin may begin to peel. The intensity of the peeling depends on the chemical peel used. The skin will be drier and will need additional moisturizing during a week. The final result is a brighter, more even complexion, with less redness and pigmentation and a smoother texture.

  • The procedure is preceded by a consultation where the specialist takes a thorough medical history, examines the patient's medical condition, previous procedures and the medication used.

  • The skin is cleansed before the procedure.

  • The next step is for the specialist to set the IPL to the appropriate settings and set up the cooling machine, which helps to cool the skin during the procedure and reduce the sensation of heat on the skin.

  • To prevent the IPL beam from getting into the eyes, special darkening goggles are used during the procedure.

  • The specialist will then start the IPL treatment.

  • Depending on the skin and the concern, 1 or more layers of the chosen chemical peel is applied and the procedure is finished with cool compresses.

  • After the procedure, the specialist applies a soothing cream and a sunscreen, if necessary.

  • Avoid self tanning products for two weeks after the procedure.
  • To reduce the sensation of burning, you can keep a cold compress on your skin (only from the fridge, not the freezer).
  • To soothe the burning sensation and restore the skin, a moisturizing cream should be used (depending on the skin type, e.g. Cicaplast Baume, Eucerin Aquaphor, Silkses etc.) until the skin has recovered (moisturize at least 2 times a day, more if necessary). For acne-prone skin, we recommend La Roche Posay Effaclar H cream during the skin's recovery period.
  • To moisturize and soothe the skin, thermal water spray (e.g. Avene, La Roche Posay) is also very effective.
  • If swelling occurs antihistamines (anti-allergy medication, e.g. Zyrtec, Claritine) can be used.
  • Avoid other professional treatments for 2 weeks (laser procedures, beauty injections, chemical peels, etc).

Questions?
We have answers

The number of procedures and the need for combinations will be determined during the consultation. Depending on the type of skin and the nature of the problem, each course of treatment is individual. Usually we recommend 1-2 treatments per year.

The procedure usually takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. On the first visit a thorough consultation is added, then the procedure may take longer.

Immediately after the procedure, you may experience redness, swelling and skin sensitivity (sensation similar to sunburn). The swelling is generally under the eyes or on the cheeks, in rare cases the whole face can be swollen. The swelling usually lasts for 1-3 days, very rarely up to 1 week. In the case of hyperpigmentation, the first week you will see a darkening of the pigment and peeling of the skin, as if the skin is dirty (the so-called coffee grounds effect). The peeling of the skin usually starts after two days and lasts up to 1 week.

You must come to the procedure in good health and not be in the middle of a course of medication or dental treatment. After antibiotic treatment, you should wait 2 weeks before coming to the procedure. There must be no active stage of herpes on the skin. No alcohol consumption is recommended for at least 48 hours before and after the procedure. At least 3 to 4 weeks must have passed since the last tanning, strong UV-radiation, and self-tanning products (including spray tanning) must not be used.

After the procedure, your skin may feel tight, dry, and itchy. Since your skin's protective barrier is temporarily compromised until the healing process is complete, applying a hydrating moisturizer recommended by your specialist can help alleviate the dry and itchy feeling.
Avoiding the urge to scratch an itch or to pull a layer of dead skin can be extremely difficult but also extremely important. Manipulating the skin's natural healing process can result in infections and harm the skin's new, healthy layers.
