How does the procedure suit You?
The procedure is suitable if you are concerned about the first signs of ageing, changes in skin tone (hyperpigmentation, redness) due to sun damage, red and blue scars from acne, mild rosacea and couperose.
Sagging skin
Pigmentation spots
Redness
How does the procedure work?
IPL flashes are non-ablative, which means they do not damage the skin's surface. IPL light stimulates the synthesis of collagen in the skin, which results in more elastic and plump skin, less superficial wrinkles and pigmentation, and smoother, younger-looking skin. It also reduces redness of the cheeks, tightens pores and heals acne-damaged skin. As the skin surface remains undamaged, the recovery period is fast and most clients' skin reactions settle down within a few hours. We use Nordlys by Ellipse IPL technology in Medemis, which works on a safe Dual-Mode system. This allows the device to work only at the wavelengths that are useful and necessary for the treatment and is safe for the patient.
Procedure is recommended to be carried out during winter time (autumn-winter). After the procedure, there may be redness, darkening of the pigmentation and a sunburn sensation, which will pass within a few hours.
The final result is a brighter, more even skin tone, with less redness, pigmentation and a smoother texture.
The procedure is preceded by a consultation where the specialist takes a thorough medical history, examines the patient's medical condition, previous procedures and the medication used.
The skin is cleansed before the procedure and a transparent ultrasound gel is applied to prevent overheating during the procedure.
The next step is for the specialist to set the IPL to the appropriate settings and set up the cooling machine, which helps to cool the skin during the procedure and reduce the sensation of heat on the skin.
To prevent the IPL beam from getting into the eyes, special darkening goggles are used during the procedure.
The specialist will then start the IPL treatment.
After the procedure, the specialist applies a soothing cream and a sunscreen, if necessary.

- We do not perform the procedure during antibiotic treatment, 2 weeks must have passed since the last medication.
- If you are taking any medication, please let us know before coming for the procedure.
- We do not perform the procedure when you have active infections such as cold sores, acne, rosacea.
- Discontinue the use of retinol and AHA/BHA products at least 3-5 days before the procedure. Resume use once the skin has recovered from the procedure.
- Contraindications are pregnancy, breastfeeding, oncological diseases, chronic inflammation of the body, keloid scars, active herpes, freshly tanned skin.
- The procedure is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
After the procedure
- Redness, swelling, skin sensitivity, bruising may occur after the procedure and last for several days after the procedure.
- Crusting may appear on the treated skin. This is also normal and should go away within a week to 10 days.
- You should not drink alcohol for 24 hours.
- Avoid sauna, hot bath or spa treatments for 2 weeks.
-
Do not use make-up products for 24 hours.
- Do not exercise for 2 days.
-
During 4 weeks, protect the area from UV light (use sunscreen SPF50). Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours. If you work indoors, sit away from windows. Be mindful of how often you step outside.
- Avoid self tanning products for two weeks after the procedure.
- To reduce the sensation of burning, you can keep a cold compress on your skin (only from the fridge, not the freezer).
- To soothe the burning sensation and restore the skin, a moisturising cream should be used until the skin has recovered (moisturise at least 2 times a day, more if necessary).
- To moisturise and soothe the skin, thermal water spray (e.g. Avene, La Roche Posay) is also very effective.
- If swelling occurs antihistamines (anti-allergy medication, e.g. Zyrtec, Claritine) can be used.
- Avoid other professional treatments for 2 weeks (laser procedures, beauty injections, chemical peels, etc).
- As IPL treatment is often done in a course, the next procedure can be done after 4 weeks.
- To prolong the results of treatments, it is important to use sunscreen on the face all year round.

Questions?
We have answers
When do I start seeing results?
Improvement is most noticeable starting about 1-2 weeks after the procedure and will improve during one month.
Is a single procedure enough or is a course of treatment necessary?
The number of procedures and the need for combinations will be determined during the consultation. Depending on the type of skin and the nature of the problem, each course of treatment is individual. Usually we recommend 1-2 treatments per year.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes. On the first visit a thorough consultation is added, then the procedure may take longer.
What do I expect after the procedure? How much recovery time do I need?
Immediately after the procedure, you may experience redness, swelling and skin sensitivity (sensation similar to sunburn). The swelling is generally under the eyes or on the cheeks, in rare cases the whole face can be swollen. The swelling usually lasts for 1-3 days, very rarely up to 1 week. In the case of hyperpigmentation, the first week you will see a darkening of the pigment and slight peeling of the pigment, as if the skin is dirty (the so-called coffee grounds effect).
What is important to know before the procedure?
You must come to the procedure in good health and not be in the middle of a course of medication or dental treatment. After antibiotic treatment, you should wait 2 weeks before coming to the procedure. There must be no active stage of herpes on the skin. No alcohol consumption is recommended for at least 24 hours before and after the procedure. At least 3 to 4 weeks must have passed since the last tanning, strong UV-radiation, and self-tanning products (including spray tanning) must not be used.
Is IPL good for melasma?
With the way IPL works, it can definitely help in lightening melasma. However, it should not be seen as the one and only solution. For best results, it should be done in tandem with other treatments like topical creams, chemical peels and laser procedures.
We recommend coming to the consultation first before booking a procedure.
