How does the procedure work?
As we age, our natural collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production decrease – meaning our skin loses its composition, firmness, and hydration.
When injected over two sessions (an initial session, followed by a follow-up session 4 weeks later) Profhilo disperses through the skin layers over the 4-week period, stimulating collagen and elastin production and deeply internally hydrating the skin.
This allows the cells to remodel skin laxity and aging tissue. Profhilo does not add volume making it somewhat different from dermal fillers but instead provides intense moisturisation for renewed, restored, and refreshed skin texture.

Before the procedure
- We recommend doing the procedure at least one week before any social event as bruises and bumps (which can be covered with make-up from the next day onwards) may occur after the procedure.
- Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before the procedure.
- At least 48 hours must have passed since tanning. Injection procedures are not recommended on freshly tanned or sunburnt skin. Avoid self tanning products for one week before the procedure.
- It is advisable not to take blood thinning medication 3-7 days before. Aspirin, Ibuprofen increase the risk of bruising.
- For 1 week prior to the procedure, we recommend avoiding fish oil and vitamin E supplements.
- Contraindications are: pregnancy, breastfeeding, inflammation of the skin, active herpes (on the lip).
- If you are taking any medication, please let us know before coming for the procedure.
- We do not perform the procedure during antibiotic treatment, 2 weeks must have passed since the last medication.
- We recommend coming to the procedure with no make-up.
After the procedure
- On the day of injections, keep the injection areas clean to avoid the risk of infection.
- Around the injection sites you might experience small bumps which look a little like small bee stings, this is common with any injectable treatment and should last 24-72 hours.
- Mild redness, bruising, swelling, skin sensitivity may occur after the procedure.
- In case of swelling, antihistamines (e.g. Zyrtec, Claritin) and cold compresses may be used if necessary.
- Do not use make-up products for 12 hours.
- There might be slight swelling around the injection sites and also under the eyes.
- You should not drink alcohol and exercise for 24 hours.
- Avoid sauna, hot bath or spa treatments for 1 week.
- Avoid other professional treatments in the injected area for 2 weeks (laser procedures, beauty injections, chemical peels, etc.).

How often should you have a Profhilo treatment?
Commonly, two treatment sessions of Profhilo, spaced four weeks apart, are recommended. This initial treatment period is followed by maintenance top-ups at 6 to 9 month intervals. This, again, depends on the patient’s needs and skin condition.
What is the difference between Profhilo and dermal fillers?
Profhilo bio-remodelling does not add volume to the face and is not a dermal filler. Its role is to hydrate deeply into the skin and improve skin resilience and elasticity. Containing a natural product that absorbs water, Profhilo keeps the skin hydrated, however, it will not replace lost volume as a dermal filler will.
Profhilo can be combined with biorevitalization to hydrate also the forehead and under eyes area.
Does Profhilo hurt?
Generally Profhilo is not a painful treatment. You may experience slight discomfort or stinging both during and for a day or so afterwards around the injection sites.
What areas can be treated?
Profhilo is most commonly used for lower facial areas including the cheeks, chin but can also effectively be used for rejuvenating the neck, décolletage, arms, knees and back of the hands.
