What is COSMELAN®?
COSMELAN® is a professional depigmenting treatment by mesoestetic®, developed specifically to reduce pigmentation caused by excessive melanin production. The treatment is suitable for different skin types and can be used for both superficial and more persistent pigmentation concerns.
Unlike a conventional chemical peel, COSMELAN® does not focus solely on renewing the surface of the skin. The treatment aims to reduce existing pigmentation while also regulating excessive melanin production. The treatment programme therefore consists of two complementary stages: an intensive in-clinic treatment followed by a home-care protocol.
Pigmentation spots
How does the treatment work?
During the first stage, the skin is prepared at the clinic and the intensive depigmenting COSMELAN® 1 mask is applied to the face. The mask remains on the skin and is removed at home after the period specified by the specialist, usually after 8–12 hours.
Over the following days, the skin may become red, dry and sensitive, and some flaking may occur. This is part of the skin's adjustment process, and the intensity of the reaction varies from person to person.
COSMELAN® 2 home care is started 48–72 hours after removing the mask, according to the specialist's instructions. Over the following months, the frequency of product use is adjusted according to the stage of treatment and the skin's response.

Questions?
We have answers
When is the best time to start COSMELAN® treatment?
COSMELAN® treatment can be performed throughout the year, but autumn and winter are generally the most suitable seasons to start, as intense UV exposure and prolonged time in the sun are easier to avoid. Daily use of high-level sun protection is essential throughout the treatment.
Is COSMELAN® suitable for treating melasma?
Yes. Melasma is one of the main pigmentation concerns for which COSMELAN® is used. As melasma is a chronic condition that can recur, reducing existing pigmentation should be combined with ongoing management and consistent sun protection.
When will I see results?
The skin tone gradually becomes more even and pigmentation begins to fade during the course of treatment. The speed at which results develop depends on the type and depth of pigmentation, the skin's individual response and how closely the home-care protocol is followed.
Is one in-clinic treatment enough?
Is one in-clinic treatment enough?
COSMELAN® involves one intensive professional treatment at the clinic, but the treatment does not end when the mask is removed. It is followed by a home-care protocol lasting several months, which plays an essential role in achieving results and reducing the recurrence of pigmentation.
Will my skin peel after the treatment?
Yes. During the first few days, redness, dryness, tightness, sensitivity and flaking may occur. The intensity of the reaction varies from person to person, and the skin's recovery is supported with skincare products included in the COSMELAN® protocol.
Can pigmentation return?
Yes. Hyperpigmentation, particularly melasma, can recur and may be influenced by UV exposure, hormonal changes and other individual factors. Consistent home care and year-round high-level sun protection are therefore important for maintaining the results.
Is COSMELAN® suitable for all skin types?
COSMELAN® has been developed for use on a wide range of skin types and phototypes. However, suitability is always assessed individually based on the condition of the skin, the type of pigmentation and any medications or skincare products being used.
