How does the procedure suit You?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which the sweat glands secrete more fluid than normal. In this condition, a person does not have more sweat glands than normal, but in response to the body's stress, both physical and emotional, the sweat glands produce more fluid than is needed to thermoregulate the body.

How does the procedure work?

As a minimally invasive procedure, botulinum toxin injections are an effective treatment to reduce sweating. Botulinum toxin is approved by the FDA as a treatment for moderate to severe hyperhidrosis and is used in many countries around the world. Botulinum toxin is produced by bacteria (Clostridium botulinum), and at therapeutic doses, botulinum toxin temporarily blocks nerve endings that regulate sweat glands.

  • The procedure is preceded by a consultation where the specialist takes a thorough medical history, examines the patient's medical condition, previous procedures and the medication used.

  • The area to be injected is disinfected before the procedure.

  • If necessary, numbing cream is applied.

  • A very fine needle is used to inject tiny amounts of Botox just under the skin throughout the area of excessive sweating.

  • After the injection, a restorative cream is applied.

Questions?
We have answers

While a stinging or pinching sensation is expected when the injection is administered, the discomfort is usually brief and minimal. If necessary, we use a numbing cream before the procedure, which makes the procedure practically painless. However, injections into the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands are more painful even after the numbing cream.

Botox is not a permanent cure and some people may get greater benefit than others. In hyperhidrosis botox helps to stop or greatly reduce the symptoms. Effects may last between six and nine months.
