Questions?
We have answers
What causes pigment spots and melasma?
Pigment spots form from melanin accumulating in certain skin areas. The main causes are sun exposure, hormonal changes (pregnancy, contraceptives), the aging process and post-inflammatory pigmentation. Melasma is especially strongly linked to hormonal factors.
Which treatment is best for pigment spots?
The choice of treatment depends on the type and depth of pigmentation. For superficial sun spots, IPL therapy works well. For melasma, Green Toning and chemical peels are effective. Often the best results come from a combination of methods.
Can pigment spots return after treatment?
Pigment spots can return due to sun exposure, which is why daily use of SPF 50+ sunscreen is extremely important. For melasma, maintenance treatments and continuous sun protection are especially crucial for long-lasting results.
How many treatments are needed to reduce pigment spots?
For IPL therapy we typically recommend 3–5 sessions at 3–4 week intervals. For chemical peels and Green Toning, 4–6 sessions. The first results are often visible after the very first treatment.
Is pigmentation treatment suitable for darker skin tones?
Yes, but for darker skin tones the method must be chosen carefully. Green Toning and chemical peels work well for darker skin too. IPL parameters are adjusted to match the skin tone. The doctor will assess suitable options during consultation.
